Comment: A rare example of clean ruby from Ceylon, with lots a flowery purple mingled in the red. This color is different from the aggressive pinkish reds one may seek in Burma or even Africa. It is a gentle earthly color (not brown but earthy as opposed to "neon" or "fire engine" red) reminding of fruits and blossoms. The shape borders at rectangular with rounded ends, in fact the sides are parallel lines without any curve. This shape leaves much room for a ring design with diamonds.
