Comment: While rhodolite and other red garnets can pose as rubies, it is different with red tourmaline a.k.a. rubellite (even if dealers in Bangkok or HK sell them to tourists as 'ruby-light' with a ruby premium). Tourmaline's strong pleochroic feature separates it from corundum, and most other red varieties for that matter. This 0.70 round shows orange, purple, red, yellow and endless mixtures thereof, plus violet (though not on photo). In 6mm and Medium Dark 75, the eye combines all this to reddish orange, or reddish purple, depending on the light setting, but IMO not as a ruby would do it. The charmingly plain but precise hand-cut (see backside) produces a circular luster with strong but locally focused fire churning in motion. Though pretty perfect, this gem was cut before the word CAD was invented. As per 'official grading rules' it is 'free of inclusions', but under the lens you may find a natural surface dent on the backside. Therefore, to pre-empt complains about 'something' under the lens, we grade such gems 'very lightly included' assuming most do not know or care about 'official rules'. No window, no visible inclusions, no treatments. All WildFish gems buy a 1000sqm of rainforest to be protected in your name (WLT currently buys in Mexico), make a donation for the legal rights of animals, include free shipping, all original paperwork and everything your ancestors may need to proof the gem's value.
