Overall Grade: Good+

Comment: A fresh sky-blue unheated Ceylon sapphire with a big face but no window to speak of. Always shiny blue with a bright sparkle. Inclusions are visible only under the lens. A good gem for those who mistrust the easily dark-looking royal- or kashmir-blue sapphires, which cost a multiple but are not easily ID-ed as sapphires by the novice. Those who had such a blue set in a ring report the satisfaction of always having a piece of sky to look at, day- and night, in- and outdoors. Local hand-cut but with modern qualities, even if not a precision-cut. 3*Nos: No eye-visible inclusions, no window, no treatments. IGI report with 'no heat' and origin 'Sri Lanka'. One of the few sapphires from this mine-run without a 'purple' in the color definition, but only a pure 'blue'. Nothing can go wrong with such a gem in a classic tiffany setting.
