Overall Grade: Very Good

Comment: Adventurous precision-cut Brazilian topaz, a mix of gold, chocolate, honey, peach, apricot, and more joint in near eight carats. Utterly clean, even under the lens. Now, the multi-$-question: 'imperial' or not? IGI says nope because they saw 'yellow-orange-brown' but not 'yellow-brown-orange'. Surely no pink or red to help along but yellow-golden, yes. The large facets behind a checkerboard-type front change the gems' appearance radically with every move. Many little facets make for smooth rolling changes but these here chunky blocks throw sudden shadow where there was gold before, or shine bright orange where there was cacao. As so often, the side-images show color uninhibited from brilliancy. In images with the viewpoint precisely above the center, thick yellow rays spread from an abstract sunrise. The 3*Nos of Excellence, 'no treatment, no window, no inclusions', are easily fulfilled. The question whether we have an imperial topaz or not, remains unsolved but our rules demand to follow the lab's judgement. That way we don't go down the slippery slope of self-appraisal. If you value your own judgement, here is a chance to catch an imperial topaz in finest Sunday best for less than half the usual asking.
