Comment: Almost a Ceylon ruby. Opinions differ where magenta sapphire ends and ruby begins, but this 1.49 is definitely on the border between ruby and sapphire. In any case, both, deep pink sapphire and rubies are a hard find in Sri Lanka. The production of great blues keeps Ceylon on the map of sapphire lovers, there is good yellow, white and bright pinks, particularly pads, but with magenta or ruby alone, the country would not be considered a serious player anymore. Therefore, we are doubly proud to show this unheated rich rose pink almost 8x6mm corundum straight from the mountains of Sri Lanka. As our incorruptible images show, we have a few inclusions under the lens but none visible to the eye, the gem is not deep but keeps its hue throughout the center (big face-no window), the cut is not a precision marvel but neither is it sloppy or with flaws. In fact, you can clearly sense that the cutter was desperate to save the rare material from his grinding wheel and keep as much as possible on the gem. A precision re-cut, if you wish, would probably take us down to one carat. You are the boss, but seeing the handshot I don't think this 1.49 suffers from a window or asymmetry. Exceptionally lush for a Sri Lankan sapphire. It even has a hint of that famous 'diesel' in the crystal, producing the typical silvery sheen of many Sri Lankan gems (which is then commonly burned away later). Intense red sparkler in any light, never pale, never dark, ('never pink' I almost wrote). A rare opportunity for an enthusiast of this wonderful island in the Indian ocean or the collector of rare sapphire specimens. Priced as sapphire, not ruby.
