Comment: Like many Montana sapphires, this 5 carat hexagon is not a colour gem. Yet, especially for Montana, we are looking at a serious size, even after a precision cut (for the novice: precision cuts need much more rough, often ending in double the weight loss). Not many Montana sapphires make it over 2 or 3 carats. The hue reminds of a slightly foggy sky in a cold region (I've so far avoided Montana in winter, but that is what I imagine). Finest cutting, adamantine icy brilliancy, even though the crystal is shot through with meteor-like needles and covered by a silky sheen. The close-up image (lens only) has captured the moon rising over the horizon. Full 'no-heat' AGL prestige report. All-in-all a serious gem, in character and in size. The only other Montana we have that gets close to this giant's dimension (11x10mm!) is MCF619 and there you can see that colour is highly priced in Montana sapphires because it's so darned rare. Reduced to 2.4k/carat for unheated sapphire this is a true bargain off the beaten path. David Dawson did a terrific job getting 11x10mm from this rough without opening a window! Definitely not your everyday sapphire but arctic and hard, and probably too big for ladies' ring. If you are looking for something special with value and a gem that raises eyebrows, here you are: Let us set it in steel instead of gold and you have something beyond unique!
