Comment: As a purple star sapphire this gem offers a charming dark grape color and a well-defined, sharp and easily visible star. The color is best seen in our no-star images, the star itself is reddish (a rare occurrence), though the yellow tungsten torch partly hides that elegant feature on photo (look close and you can still see it). For the collector and gemmologist, this sapphire has a few extras to offer: The hexagonal crystal structure, with the centre falling exactly into the cross-section of the star, the transparent purple-blue areas (spheres) inside the opaque body and the labyrinth of twister shaped lines that are best visible in the rough unpolished back (more images). An exciting gem to study and a fine purple star for jewelry. DSEF certified unheated (stars can and are regularly treated), as-good-as-seven carats, no extra weight in the back, over 11x10mm. Seriously sized but affordable unheated star sapphire. The dark hue with the silver red rays make it a special character.
