Overall Grade: Very Good

Comment: A very tight ray in normally far less sharp quartz cat's eye. For a change, and with some effort, we have dragged this gem into direct sunshine (main image) showing the ray sharp white and the body dark chocolate brown. With its flat round body, the five carats make for a big face-up over ten millimeter. Note, how the ray changes color under different light sources, yellow, white and even blue in the handshot under harsh office light. The dark body reminds of coffee (no milk), or chocolate depending on the light setting. With a long history as healing gem, this is an affordable alternative to expensive chrysoberyl cat's eyes (even in much smaller sizes). It could be set into a big lady's ring; the flat body of the gem will protect it from tear and wear, or in a pendant from simple to extraodinary posh. Let the goldsmith (if it's not us) position the gem so that the ray sits as you want it to, horizontal or vertical.
